Möhne lake in West-Germany

The Möhne lake is in Germany in an area that is called Sauerland between the little towns of Soest and Arnsberg and the bis city of Dortmund in the east.

It is a lake where you can swim in summer, making boat trips and hiking around the lake.

In the south of the lake there is a tower that you can go on it and watch the lake and there are a lot of restaurants where you can eat and drink something.

History

In the World War II, there was a bombing of the concrete dam in 1943. A British bomb hit the concrete dam that exploded, and the water overflowed the houses even to the Ruhr Area.

How to get there

You can reach the lake with the bus lines of public transport R49 from Soest directly to Körbecke. Körbecke is the main part of the town Möhnesee.

Otherwise, you can reach it with the bus line S11 from Soest to Arnsberg, but there is no regularly service.

The car driver can use the freeway Bundesautobahn A44 to the exit Soest and take the main road Bundesstraße B229 to Delecke that is another part of the town Möhnesee. The concrete dam is near Günne, another part of the town Möhnesee.

My video about it

Here is my video. I filmed the bus journey with the bus from Soest to Möhnesee final stop and the lake and back. 35 minutes has the video.
